KATHY KARAKALPAKIS
Kathy is our echocardiographer, she does the echo (heart ultrasound) test at all practice locations. All of the patients who have had their echo studies done in my practice will have come across Kathy. She is a gentle soul who is very kind and soft with the patients, who always comments on how gentle she was with pressing the probe onto their chests!!
Kathy performs the echo test at all our three office locations: Frankston, Mornington and Rosebud. Additional venues for echocardiograms are available at Mt. Eliza, Aspendale Gardens and Carrum Downs.
KENNY LEE
Recently, Kenny has also joined our practice as an additional very experienced echocardiography. Kenny has more than 20 years experience in echocardiography. Kenny performs echo studies at Frankston, Mornington as well as Rosebud.
JOSH WILMOTT
Josh is also an additional recruit to our echocardiographer services. Josh performs echo studies at our Peninsula Private Hospital facility.
A more invasive technique of trans-oesophageal echocardiogram is shown below:
A trans-oesophageal echocardiogram (TOE or TEE) allows a swallowed ultrasound probe to visualise the heart from the oesophagus, thereby avoiding the ribs that may interfere with imaging from the chest wall. As the probe is closer to the heart, the images obtained by this technique is better and in more detail. This is particularly important in certain cases, for example, defining the cause of a valve abnormality, looking for smaller masses, and evaluating the success of valve repair or replacement during open heart surgery.
