Dr David Di Fiore

Peninsula Heart Centre is delighted to welcome Dr David Di Fiore. Having relocated from his practice in Bundaberg to live and work full time in the Albury Wodonga area. His broad skillset will not only meet the cardiology demands in the Riverina region but offers a comprehensive cardiology service in a timely manner.

Dr Di Fiore graduated from the University of Adelaide in 2003 and after completing advanced cardiology training at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide, he consolidated his practice working in an acute medical unit and travelling to consult in outlying towns in SA. It was during this period he started his PhD focusing on the predictors and outcomes of coronary artery spasm, gaining expertise in intracoronary spasm provocation and vasoreactivity. This was the basis for his long held academic interests involving angina syndromes, heart failure management and complex stenting.

David undertook an Interventional Cardiology fellowship honing his interests and procedural skills involving complex stenting (rotablator, intravascular ultrasound). His collegial activities involved not only overseeing the smooth running of the fellowship educational program but would serve as a forerunner to his future role as Associate Lecturer at the University of Adelaide, supervising medical students and junior resident medical staff.

David has level A certification in coronary artery CT reporting, recognizing the importance of this modality in the evaluation of his patients. He combines this with functional testing (stress tests + stress echoes) to ensure he captures the information required prior to arranging more invasive coronary angiography.

He has since further developed his skills in cardiac device management including bradycardia pacing. A special interest in rhythm management and atrial fibrillation compliments both the heart failure cohort and the pacemaker demands. David is available to support his colleague, Dr Greg Szto offering a pacing service, implanting single or dual chamber pacemakers and loop recorders.

David’s endearing and caring nature enables him to easily establish a rapport with his patients. Time spent with his patients is invaluable to him as he gets to understand their specific needs and those of the broader community. He is keen to take the opportunity to meet the local GP’s and specialists to gain a wider appreciation of the Riverina area.

Dr Di Fiore shares his time at Peninsula Heart Centre with a public appointments at AWH – allowing him to treat both insured and non insured patients.

David is joined by his, wife Elena and his young children, Domenic and identical twin girls Emilia and Sofia. Together they look forward to exploring everything the Albury Wodonga area and surrounds has to offer.
